About this work

At the center of a room devastated by time, an old gold velvet armchair seems to stand guard. Bathed in a harsh beam of light falling from the ceiling, it emerges with an outdated dignity from the surrounding darkness. Behind it, the walls are landscapes of decay: the plaster is peeling, the mold draws specters, and the paint fades like a distant memory. The contrast is striking between the tufted, almost regal texture of the seat and the industrial roughness of the raw floor and the dark bookshelf lurking in the shadows. The image, framed by a worn film effect, gives the impression of a snapshot found in the rubble of an asylum or an abandoned manor. One almost expects to see a figure materialize there, for in this visual silence, the absence of the occupant is louder than any scream.
