The Banshee: a figure both terrifying and sacred Her piercing gaze and wide-open mouth evoke the piercing cry that announces death in Irish tradition. But her expression is not only frightening: she has an almost divine dignity, as if she were the guardian of secrets between worlds. Her long hair (represented by the hairs of the broom stuck on) adds an organic and wild dimension, as if she were made of mist, wind and whispers. The floral crown on her head reinforces her connection with nature and paganism. The mushrooms, often associated with portals to the other world in Celtic folklore, make her a mediator between the living and the spirits.
